DAY

02

MELBOURNE - LORNE

Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast at your hotel, visit the Eureka Skydeck and then try your bikes to make yourself comfortable before hitting the road.

First riding day of the trip and the most exciting as we ride the world famous Great Ocean Road! Famous as one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world, words can’t describe the wonderful scenery and amazing riding on this 280 kms stretch of road on the fringes of Melbourne, but we’ll try anyway.

For comfort and to gain the most of this stunning coastal ride we have divided the ride into two days. Today’s ride would be a shorter 150 kms ride from Melbourne to Lorne past Geelong. On the way to Lorne stop briefly at Kennett River to watch in awe the iconic Aussie furry koalas.

DAY

03

LORNE - HALLS GAP

Today would be the second day of the Great Ocean Road. As soon as your wheels hit asphalt, you’ll realise just how special the Great Ocean Road really is. The route twists and turns, hugging the picturesque cliffs as it winds a sinuous path along the coast. First stop today is Cape Otway to visit the lighthouse there.

There are plenty of small coastal towns to stop for a break and a coffee, serving up fantastic ocean lookouts along with the great refreshments. The lovely Otway Ranges provide a lush backdrop to the quaint towns when the road darts inland away from the coast. Closer to Port Campbell, visit the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, the Grotto, London Bridge, The Arch the list goes on and on! Don’t forget to watch the road as well as the spectacular views though! We would continue our ride to Halls Gap to spend the night.

DAY

04

HALLS GAP - PORT MELBOURNE

Rising up from the western Victorian plains, and acting as a heaven for bush walkers, rock climbers & nature-lovers, the Grampians are one of Victoria’s most significant natural and cultural features. The rich diversity of wildlife and flora, the unique rock formations, the Aboriginal rock art, the spectacular viewpoints and an extensive network of trails and bush campsites offer something for everyone. Go for a short hike or simply lazy around in your cottage listening to the birds before we start our ride for the day.

We would ride back to Melbourne today. However, we will make the most of the opportunity and visit one of Australia’s premier tourist attractions, Sovereign Hill in Ballarat. We will be boarding the Spirit of Tasmania today late evening for an overnight ferry to Tasmania.

DAY

05

DEVONPORT - BICHENO

Today will be our first day at Tasmania, the state with the most beautiful roads in the country. Head north-west along the old coast road out of town for unrivaled views of the Bass Strait you just crossed on the ferry. Our first stop is to visit the Bay of Fires National Park on the north east coast of the island. The second is for a sea food lunch at St Helens and thirdly, visit the Motorcycle Museum at Bicheno.

If you are into wildlife, then the local evening Penguin tour is highly recommended.

DAY

06

BICHENO - HOBART

Apart from today’s ride, the main attraction is the Wineglass Bay and Port Arthur Historic Site. The near perfect swath of sand at Wineglass Bay has earned it the accolade of one of the top ten beaches in the world, as voted by several travel authorities.

Port Arthur is a large site holding many stories. Places like the Penitentiary, which was originally constructed as a flour mill and granary in 1843 before it housed hundreds of convicts in dormitories and solitary cells; or the much-feared Separate Prison, where harsh physical punishment was replaced with punishment of the mind. We would continue riding to Hobart, the state capital and the second oldest city in Australia to spend the night there.

DAY

07

BRUNY ISLAND

Today is supposed to be a rest day. However, we would take a short tide today to visit the Bruny Island. It is a day of thrill and adventure.

After a short ride to Kettering, we will board a ferry for Bruny Island. The Island is located south of Hobart. Once on the island, we will ride to Adventure Bay to take a 3 hour cruise (there might be a bit of off road riding to reach the cruise ferry terminal). After the cruise, we will ride back to Hobart.

DAY

08

HOBART - STRAHAN

Our first stop would be a thrilling ride to the summit of Mt Wellington (4,170 ft). We will be taking a 22 km narrow mountain road to reach the summit and then continue our journey to Strahan.

There are many spectacular views and places to stop along the way. Mount Field National Park is one of the stops we would visit today. Founded in 1916 this is Tasmania’s oldest national park, and was the last refuge of the now reportedly extinct Tasmanian Tiger.

We would also make a brief stopover at the sculpture at Derwent Bridge called The Wall in the Wilderness. It is carved from three meter high wooden panels and tells the story of Tasmanian history in the Central Highlands region – starting with the indigenous people, then pioneering timber harvesters, pastoralists, miners and Hydro workers. There is also a cafe at the Wall. Strahan is famous as the gateway to the Franklin – Gordon River National Park.

DAY

09

STRAHAN - DEVONPORT

This is the last day on the bikes in Tasmania. First stop is the Whaleback Lookout and then onto Cradle Mountain National Park – an area of astounding beauty, before heading back to Melbourne we will be taking a helicopter ride over Dove Lake.

The first part of this ride is similar to yesterday as the road is through and around the edge of a National Park. Your accommodation tonight will be on board the Spirit of Tasmania (overnight ferry to Melbourne).

Hot air balloon Yarra Valley

DAY

10

YARRA VALLEY

Reaching early morning in Port Melbourne, we will ride to the outskirts of Melbourne to visit Yarra Valley. Yarra Valley is world renowned for its vineyards and wineries. We will ride a round loop around the Valley before returning to Melbourne.

Afternoon is for relaxation and relish the memories of riding for the past few days across Victoria and Tasmania.

Enjoy a farewell dinner tonight at one of Melbourne finest restaurants.

DAY

11

DEPART MELBOURNE

Depending on the flight, go out in the city and do some last minutes shopping for your family and friends before heading out to the airport.
